The African Archaeology Lab is a dynamic research laboratory dedicated to the study of African civilizations and their enduring legacies across Africa and the global African diaspora. Through interdisciplinary research, strategic partnerships, and public engagement, the Lab advances understanding of the histories, innovations, intellectual traditions, and cultural practices that have shaped African societies and enriched the human experience.

Based in the Department of Anthropology at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY), and directed by Dr. Robert T. Nyamushosho, the Lab works collaboratively with scholars, students, heritage professionals, museum specialists, cultural institutions, and community partners in a shared pursuit of knowledge and discovery. By fostering dialogue across disciplines, the Lab creates opportunities for learning, mentorship, and the development of new perspectives on Africa’s pasts.

Through research initiatives, educational programs, public events, and international collaborations, the Lab addresses critical questions surrounding cultural heritage, historical memory, representation, and social change. At the same time, it supports emerging scholars and promotes meaningful engagement between academic research and broader public audiences.
